Many intended parents come in wanting to use frozen eggs because of the lesser cost but are actually better candidates for fresh. Here is a guide to help you choose what is best for your family.

You want to go with fresh eggs IF….

  1. You want to do (PGS) Preimplantation Genetic Screening. If you want to choose the sex of your baby, fresh is the only way to go. When we fertilize, we don’t know if the sperm is male or female until after the embryo is created. Most practices give you 5-6 eggs. Which simply isn’t enough to choose from if this is important to you.
  1. There is a possibility that you want siblings in the future. You probably will not have much if any to freeze for use at a later time.

You want to go with frozen eggs IF….

  1. You only want one child and are unconcerned with the sex of the child.
  2. You don’t want to worry about whether your donor will pass screening. With fresh cycles, your donor has to pass all of her medical screening before being cleared to donate for you. This testing is done in stages to minimize expense. However, you will have to start over with another donor and pay the testing costs again if she does not pass. With frozen eggs, the medical screening is guaranteed to be good.
